Keepers Of The Keen

SECOND CIRCLE TRAINING IN ‘THE CAOIN METHOD’

A living path of keening, lineage, grief, and ethical communal holding

Applications Open for Autumn 2026
Online + Residential Journey

Famine changed that.
Exile changed that.
The silencing of language changed that.
The disciplining of women’s voices changed that.

But grief did not disappear.

It settled into the body - into guarded throats, tight jaws, held breath, inherited restraint, and families who survived by enduring quietly.

The land remembers what we forget.

And many women of Irish lineage - whether living here or across oceans - feel something stir when they encounter this work.

A catch in the throat.
A trembling in the chest.
A sound waiting to be released.

There was a time on this island when grief was not hidden.

When the cry of a woman could move across stone fields and along the Atlantic wind.

When sorrow was not silenced but sounded.

The Keen belonged to that world.

It rose beside peat fires and earthen floors, carried by women who knew how to stand at the threshold between grief and community with steadiness and reverence.

The Bean Chaointe did not perform.

She held.

Ireland once knew how to grieve aloud.

A CONTEMPORARY PRACTICE
ROOTED IN LINEAGE

grief retreats and keening work

Keepers of the Keen exists for this reason.

Not to recreate the funeral Keen of old Ireland - that belonged to its time.

But to honour its lineage by allowing lament to live again in a form modern bodies and nervous systems can safely hold.

The Caoin Method is a contemporary grief-voicing practice rooted in Celtic memory and shaped through voice, body, containment, ethics, ritual, and integration.

It recognises something deeply human:

Grief is primal.

It shakes the diaphragm.
It cracks the voice.
It rises like tide against rock.

Without support, it can overwhelm.
Without permission, it can harden inward.

This work restores a steady middle ground - where grief can be met with reverence rather than fear, and with depth rather than spectacle.

This Path is for women who feel called to:

  • Journey in intimacy with grief and loss through body and lineage

  • Deepen their relationship with voice and lament

  • Strengthen their capacity to hold others with integrity and care

  • Enter a path rooted in reverence rather than performance

  • Explore communal grief practice in a grounded and ethical way

  • Walk slowly with grief rather than bypass or dramatise it

This is not a quick certification.
It is a path of descent, listening, responsibility, and return.
